When I’m not working with clients, I love finding new and exciting things to do in Carlsbad. Whether you want to explore the city by yourself, go out with friends, or take the whole family on
a weekend adventure, there’s truly no shortage of memorable experiences in this unique
community.
Top Things to Do in Carlsbad
Carlsbad has something for every interest and age group. These are some of my favorite local attractions:
K1 Speed Go Kart
K1 Speed has indoor go-kart racing and an arcade. The premium electric karts can go up to 45
mph, and it even hosts monthly race leagues for serious enthusiasts.
Hike Aviara Trails
You don’t have to leave the city to discover unforgettable landscapes. Carlsbad’s Aviara Trails
can take you to lagoons, salt marshes, and eucalyptus groves.
Museum of Making Music
If you want to learn about musical instruments while playing them, the Museum of Making Music
is the place to be. In addition to giving your whole family a hands-on lesson in music history, the
museum also hosts regular concerts and events.
Golf at the Crossings
For serious golfers, it doesn’t get much better than The Crossings at Carlsbad. This 400-acre
property offers world-class golf, event spaces, and a fantastic seasonal menu.
Carlsbad Village Street Faire
The nation’s largest one-day street fair takes place right in Carlsbad. With almost 1,000 craft
booths, an international food court, a beer garden, and a live entertainment stage, it offers
something for everyone.
Carlsbad Premium Outlets
If you’re in need of a little retail therapy, Carlsbad Premium Outlets is where you want to go. The
center has more than 84 stores where you can find coveted luxury brands for less.
Agua Hedionda Lagoon
Agua Hedionda Lagoon is one of San Diego County’s most notable natural features. It’s a
beautiful place to kayak, fish, go boating, or just relax.
Strawberry Fields
Carlsbad’s iconic strawberry fields have been here since 1952. They’re owned by the Carlsbad
Strawberry Company, and you can pick your own in “U-pick” fields or buy from one of the
company’s many strawberry stands across the county
Candle Bar
Scented candles can help you relax and unwind after a difficult day. But what if you could come
up with your own scent? At Candle Bar, you can. You choose a vessel and a scent, mix your
wax, and decorate and label the finished product.
Peacocks at Leo Carrillo Ranch
If you want to see majestic birds up close, Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park is worth a visit. The
park, originally created by actor Leo Carrillo, is home to around 40 peafowl, including rare and
striking all-white birds.
Carlsbad Restaurants to Visit at Least Once
Looking for a quick bite or want to plan a special dinner? Carlsbad has several one-of-a-kind
restaurants. Here are some of my favorites:
Ember & Rye
Ember & Rye might be a casual steakhouse, but it offers exceptional dishes made from local
ingredients. Enjoy wild-caught seafood, fresh vegetables, and elevated cocktails.
Green Dragon
Green Dragon Tavern & Museum is a great place to enjoy a meal and learn about Carlsbad’s
past. It’s a replica of the old Green Dragon Tavern, and like its predecessor, it’s focused on
creating a real sense of community.
Nick’s on State
If you’re craving comfort food, try Nick’s on State. It’s a cozy yet upscale environment, and you
might be surprised by the extensive wine list.
Campfire
Want to enjoy classic American fare while feeling like you’re on a camping trip? Campfire is one
of the city’s most unusual and most highly rated restaurants. It’s located in a distinctive
midcentury Quonset hut and dotted with camp-themed decor.
